MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) - It’s a busy time in Madison for local Central Wisconsin lawmakers. That’s according to State Representative John Spiros, who’s co-author of several Transportation Bills along with State Senator Jerry Petrowski.

Spiros says, “The three bills have to do with bringing the State of Wisconsin up to Federal statutes. That’s what it really comes down to.” Assembly Bill 283 doubles the length of time a driver’s license is suspended after being caught operating a commercial vehicle that’s been designated as “out-of-service”. The other bills, AB 282 and 284 increase the permissible length and operation of vehicle combinations, often called “saddle-mounts”. According to Spiros, “Saddle-mounting would be like taking a brand new tractor and hooking it at an angle to another tractor. You’ll see these coming down the highway, and a lot of times they’re being delivered to a dealer or a trucking company.”

Spiros says he’s recently authored two other bills regarding the sale or transfer of rifles across state lines, and another that reduces the statute of limitations in wrongful death or property damage cases.

The Marshfield Republican is in his first term representing Wisconsin’s 86th Assembly District.
