STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) -- Several businesses have donated materials and labor to give a deserving family a better vehicle. Mary Patoka is from CAP Services in Stevens Point. She says it’s called the Recycled Rides Program, and is a national project supported by the National Auto Body Council.
Patoka says the program allows the selected family to get reliable transportation for work or family use. “Sometimes, they’re vehicles that they might get through an insurance company. What they do once they get the vehicle is get it road worthy, so it might mean body work, it might mean new brakes, new tires, any number of things.”
Owners Tony and Sharon Kempen of Pat’s Carstar Auto Body in Plover gave a reconditioned 2003 Honda Odyssey minivan to Lynnette Woyak and her four children last week.
Patoka says CAP Services selects the recipient every year from a long list of families participating in CAP programs. “Every year, we might see as many as twenty applications for the vehicle, or more. Only one gets it, so we have a committee of our Board of Directors that helps make the selection.”
This is the sixth year Pat’s Carstar Auto Body has participated in the Recycled Rides Program. They coordinated the work, and donated labor and materials. Several other local businesses including Schierl Tire and Service, Keystone Automotive, and Badger Motors also contributed parts and labor towards the restoration.
