RIB MOUNTAIN, Wis. (WSAU) --The state building commission is giving their green light to continue improvements at Rib Mountain State Park.
It's Phase Two of the modernization project at the park. Park Superintendent Bill Bursaw says this will complete a number of improvements that have already been made at the park. "In 2010 we redid the main road up into the park, and we could only go so far. This project will continue that road work." The park also no longer has overnight camping, so they'll be knocking down the shower facilities and replacing toilets and bathrooms as well as the main sign down on the bottom of the hill.
It's all a part of how the park has changed over the years. "Being an urban day use park, and seeing our visitation continually climb every year, we're trying to modernize the park and make it much nicer for our visitors." Bursaw says the improvements in 2010 are already showing promise. "The walking path we put in in 2010 along with the road has really helped out attendance. We're seeing, in the warmer months, close to 5 or 6 thousand people a month walking up and down the hill for exercise."
The improvements are just one of the projects approved this week. In a statement, Governor Walker says "Beyond the local impact of the projects approved today, there will be an economic benefit to the entire State of Wisconsin as these projects continue to move forward,” said Governor Scott Walker. “I would like to thank the members of the Building Commission for allocating these taxpayer resources efficiently and effectively by moving forward on these projects.”
