STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) -- Several businesses are working with educators to prepare for a large job fair.

Mid-State Technical College and the University of Wisconsin campuses in Marshfield, Stevens Point, and Wausau are hosting the Central Wisconsin Collegiate Job Fair from noon to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19th.

MSTC Student Life & Career Services Coordinator Stephany Hartman says there are a number of employers coming that day looking for new workers with specialized skills. “And there’s a number of I-T positions available, marketing, software developers, business management, lots of business sales support, co-op opportunities, so there’s really a wide range of positions that we’re excited about.”

Hartman says there are careers out there in several fields, including healthcare and corrections, that need good qualified candidates, too. “A lot of college students need that internship opportunity, whether it’s while you’re trying to get your bachelor’s degree or your associate’s degree, so there’s some internship opportunities that are available as well.”

Hartman advises that job fair attendees to bring copies of an updated and proofed resume and to “dress for success.” She says they should also develop and practice a 20-second self-marketing presentation. “I’ve been in classrooms giving presentations about what should your resume include, what should it look like, why do you need a twenty-second introduction, a firm handshake is important, make sure you smile, all of these things that we’re trying to have our students be ready for.”

The collegiate job fair is free to students and graduates, and offers opportunities to connect with Wisconsin employers about career positions and internships. The event will be held in the Dreyfus University Center Laird Room at University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
