STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) -- Students from several campuses took part in a job fair Wednesday in Stevens Point.
UW Stevens Point hosted the Central Wisconsin Collegiate Job Fair at the Dreyfus Center all afternoon. Coordinator Lorry Walters is UWSP’s Associate Director of Career Services. She says the event was a bit bigger again this year. “We’ve got 59 employers represented, up from last year when we had 56, so we’re happy to see it grow a little bit every year.”
A variety of businesses from insurance, finance, manufacturing, law enforcement, and technology were looking for recruits from UW Stevens Point, UW Marathon County, and Mid-State Technical College.
Walters says the companies were looking for many skills, but above all, a good education. “The common thread among all of them is they’re looking for folks that have college education, so that’s why we’re partnering with our colleagues at the UW colleges and Mid-State to try and make this a good event for both the students that are looking for opportunities as well as the employers. One stop instead of three or four.”
Our company, Midwest Communications which operates this radio station and website, was there seeking recruits with computer programming skills. (Inquiries can be directed to Andy Gille at 715-842-1672 weekdays.)
