WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- Wausau is looking for proposals to redevelop two prime downtown real estate locations. The Wausau Club and the Savo Supply buildings are both city property, after council members voted to accept donation of the Wausau Club last November.
Economic Development Manager Megan Lawrence says the city has been seeking proposals, and some developers have talked to her. “We do have some interest. We’re getting a lot of phone calls and questions, so I definitely think we’re going to have proposals on both projects to be choosing from.”
The Wausau Club was donated by Tom and Connie Schuette, who invested over 1.5 million dollars, but took the loss donating the property to the city. Lawrence believes there’s still a future for the building, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. “I know the private sector, they had put some money into it, but that whole wave started a lot of interest and got people talking about it, and we’ve had three or four developers come forward.”
Proposals for both sites are due in April.
