WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- Investigators have found the cause of a fire that destroyed the upper level of a rural Wausau home early Wednesday.
Town of Wausau firefighters went back to the home of Marilyn Kunze and her family on Highway 52 east of Wausau. Investigators believe an apartment sized refrigerator in the upstairs bedroom malfunctioned and started on fire. Kunze’s grandson awakened to find his dresser on fire, and quickly ran downstairs and alerted his mother and grandmother. Everyone escaped without injury.
Insurance adjusters will inspect the house to determine if the lower level can be saved, or if it’s a total loss.
