WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- One of Wausau’s committees will discuss the possible purchase of riverfront property to extend the River’s Edge Trail.
The Economic Development Committee will look at possibly buying land worth 1.6 million dollars from Wausau Chemical Company. The 3.3 acres is on the west shore of the Wisconsin River. Part of the project includes the city of Wausau helping Wausau Chemical rebuild a new facility in the industrial park, which could cost taxpayers up to 5-million dollars.
City staff is recommending the purchase to not only complete a section of the trail, but to redevelop the riverfront area and enhance the neighborhood.
The Economic Development Committee meets Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at City Hall.
