ROSHOLT, Wis. (WSAU) -- Fire destroyed a home between Rosholt and Stevens Point Thursday evening.

Portage County Sheriff’s Department Sergeant Kevin Sorenson says they got the call at 9:09 p.m. “There was a structure fire. The Rosholt Fire Department along with the Town of Hull Fire Department responded. There was a 74-year-old male subject that was inside the home that was able to get out.”

The mobile home was quickly engulfed in flames and is a total loss. Sorenson said the homeowner is OK.  “Nobody was injured. The homeowner was able to get out in time, and was waiting at the side of the road in his vehicle when the fire departments arrived.”

Sorenson says the firefighters dealt with some tough conditions for a while, which led to assisting a couple members of the crew.  “There were a couple of firefighters from Rosholt that were succumbed from fatigue and overheating a little bit, but they’re doing fine. They were looked at by EMT’s. Treated and released, basically.”

Highway 66 had to be closed for just under an hour while firefighters did their job. Crews cleared the scene and reopened the road at 11:30 p.m.

The cause of the fire has not been determined yet, and remains under investigation by the Rosholt Fire Department.
