New chief deputy assigned to Oneida County Sheriff's Department

RHINELANDER, Wis. (WSAU) -- Oneida County’s Sheriff’s Department has a new chief deputy. Lieutenant Daniel Hess has been promoted to second in command by Sheriff Grady Hartman.

Hess succeeds John Sweeney, who retired in March.

The Chief Deputy is in charge of sheriff’s department operations when the sheriff is absent, and is also a key manager of several day-to-day operations.

Hess began he service with the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department as a patrol deputy in 1993, and worked his way up. He is also an accomplished detective and a graduate of the FBI National Academy. The life-long resident of Oneida County lives in the Rhinelander area with his wife Jodie and three children.

Sheriff Hartman stated, "Dan has demonstrated valuable leadership during his tenure at the Sheriff's Office. Dan has a thorough knowledge and work history within the Sheriff's Office. I am confident in Dan's knowledge, skills, and ability to serve the citizens of Oneida County."
