A Wausau woman has been arrested after stealing a dog from the Humane Society of Marathon County.
The dog named Rosie was surrendered to the shelter recently. Humane Society of Marathon County Director Mary Kirlin said the dog was taken by a slender blonde woman shortly before 12:45 p.m. Thursday. The dog followed the woman to her vehicle without a leash, leading humane society staff to believe the dog is familiar with the dognapper.
Police got a tip after 5:00 p.m. about where to locate Rosie and the woman that took her. The woman has been arrested, and will likely face criminal charges for the dognapping. Police also say the woman had other outstanding warrants.
The suspect’s name has not been released.
