WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) Wausau city officials want to install free Wi-Fi on the 400 Block.
The idea has been discussed off-and-on since 2011. There's renewed interest in the project since the block was renovated, and now that more people are out during the summer months.
The city says one vender has agreed to install the equipment for free. There is also talk of asking downtown business to pay to sponsor the Wi-Fi service in exchange for having advertising on the start-up page.
The project might cost an estimated $30,000.
The city and Marathon County are also considering open Wi-Fi for Marathon Park, although that project probably won't happen this year.
