WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- Same sex couples will be able to get marriage licenses in Marathon County starting Thursday. County Clerk Nan Kottke says barring any further legal developments, her office will start issuing the licenses at 8:00 a.m.
Kottke says, “It is undisputed that the effect of Judge Crabb’s ruling will be to remove the ban from issuing licenses to same sex couples and no federal court has issued a stay as of this date.” She says a majority of Wisconsin counties are now issuing the licenses, and they will do so as a matter of “fundamental fairness.”
Couples will need the appropriate documents and a marriage ceremony scheduled to get the license.
