SCHOFIELD, Wis. (WSAU) -- The friends and family of a man killed in an unusual crash gathered to remember him Wednesday night.
A gathering of people were at the Grand Avenue bridge over the Eau Claire River Wednesday to remember 27-year-old Mattheau Chaignot. His fiance, several friends and family members talked about how Chaignot was a good friend and a good father to his two young daughters.
The tearful crowd of about 20 tossed flowers from the bridge into the Eau Claire River, right over the place where Chaignot's Lincoln Navigator SUV came to rest after leaving the road and plunging into the river at an unknown time very early Tuesday morning.
Everest Metro Police have not released any further information including Chaignot’s name, but they believe he may have been involved in another hit-and-run crash near Thomas Street and Grand Avenue at around two in the morning. Their investigation is continuing.
