WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- Wausau’s City Council will meet Tuesday afternoon as the Committee of the Whole in closed session.

City officials are not saying much, but the discussion is expected to focus on issues surrounding former Public Works and Utilities Director Bradley Marquardt.

Marquardt resigned 12 days ago, just before possible disciplinary action could be taken against him. He was the only person named in a legal opinion that the city had sought while investigating problems with the sculpted birds installed on the Highway 52 median. There were also questions about how his department handled a water system leak that took months to locate.

Tuesday’s meeting is expected to be a discussion of possible legal action, with attorneys for Marquardt and the city present. City Attorney Anne Jacobsen has been out of town on business, and unable to comment on on the issues.

The Committee of the Whole meeting of Wausau’s City Council begins at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall, but is a closed session meeting, so the public will not be able to attend.

Mayor Jim Tipple has little comment about Marquardt, his departure, and the issues involved saying it is a personnel issue. The Mayor did say a search is underway for Marquardt’s replacement.
