
MERRILL, Wis (WSAU) Hurd Windows, with factories in Merrill and Medford, has been bought by a California company. The buyer is Sierra Pacific Industries. Hurd is headquartered in Medford and employs about 400 people.
The terms of the sale have not been made public. The sale will close in late July or early August.
The new owners say they intend to expand production at Hurd's SuperSeal facility in Merrill and will add jobs. The specifics of the plan have not been made public, but have been discussed privately with Merrill officials.
Sierra Pacific controls nearly 2-million acres of timerland in California and the Pacific Northwest. As part of the purchase, the new owners will provide the wood used for millworking at Hurd's facilities.
