MANAWA, Wis. (WSAU) -- A collision between a bicyclist and a pickup truck has left one person dead.
Waupaca County Sheriff’s deputies say the crash happened at 11:01 a.m. northwest of Manawa on Flater Road, south of Highway 161 in the Town of Union.
Investigators say the bicyclist was southbound in the northbound lane and that the pickup driver slowed down to pass the bicycle, but the bicycle driver made an abrupt right turn in front of the truck.
The bicyclist received massive head trauma in the crash. Life saving measures were attempted at the scene, but were unsuccessful. The rider died before Theda Star Helicopter could transport the patient.
The bicycle rider was not wearing a helmet or other protective gear.
Names will be released after the rider's family is notified. The investigation is continuing.
