STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) - A developer is interested in turning a vacant car lot into a new medical services facility. Mike Wimme from KLAS Properties made an initial presentation to the City of Stevens Point Monday night. He says they would like to demolish the former Cooper Motors building on Division Street. "What we're planning is approximately a 20 thousand square foot medical professional building to house dental, medical specialties, and other medical professional entities."
Wimme proposes that his firm would be responsible for the development and financing of the project, and is asking the city to consider including the project in the tax incremental financing district that already exists. "We're looking at an approximate construction cost of 3.1 million (dollars) for the entire structure, plus site work and demolition of the existing structure that's there now. We're asking the city to see if they would defer the property tax (through Tax Incremental Financing) for approximately 10 years."
KLAS Properties representatives presented the initial site plans, and said they have a pretty solid commitment from the first tenant already, which would be a pediatric dentist.
Alderman Michael O’Meara is a former Department of Transportation supervisor, and had concerns about access from Division Street northbound traffic turning left and slowing down an already-busy road.
City officials did not take action on the proposal Monday night.
