WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- A 27-year-old male suspect is in custody following yesterday's hit and run incident in Wausau.
Wausau police lieutenant Nathan Pekarske says the suspect was picked up without incident after a witness called in a tip about his whereabouts. Officers performed a traffic stop near his residence and brought the man into custody. He's now being held on a probation hold.
Pekarske says the incident was apparently a domestic fight between the man and his 17-year-old girlfriend. "Apparently this was an altercation, sounds like the female was wanting to prevent the male party from leaving the residence, and was in front of his vehicle. He then struck her with his vehicle causing her to go up on the hood and roll off. It's my understanding she was treated and released from the hospital."
No charges have been filed at this time, but Pekarske expects those to come forward tomorrow. "We're continuing our investigation and follow up, and I anticipate within the next day we'll have charges or citations recommended for this individual."
Police say the suspect in this case was also involved in an incident last month where police were called about gunshots in the area during a fight. No guns were located in that incident.
