WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- A group of people arrested in a Tuesday afternoon drug raid in Wausau are expected to make initial appearances today.
The investigation at 245 East Chellis Street was sparked by complaints from neighbors who suspected drug-dealing activity. Sheriff's lieutenant Gary Schneck says people tried to run from the house but didn't make it far. "Everybody was taken into custody, a subsequent search of the property ended up in us seizing I think a significant amount of methamphetamine and heroin."
Schneck says a good number of their arrests for houses like this have been started by tips from neighbors and the community groups in the area. "I know people get frustrated because something isn't done immediately but we do get a lot of tips, we deal with hundreds of hundreds of them every year. We do take a look at them, and try to develop cases where we can get into residences legally with search warrants and that type of thing."
Six people were arrested in the raid including the owner of the home. Schneck says charges are being written up for this afternoon. "All these individuals are well known to law enforcement, like 4 out of the 6 were on probation and probation holds were placed on them. So, they've been through the court system before."
Initial appearances start at 2:00pm at the Marathon County Courthouse.
