WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- Local dog owners and and over 100 observers had some wet fun Thursday on Wausau’s 400 Block. The dogs participated in Pier Pups Canine Dock Jumping competition. The owners threw their dog toy into the tank with about 14,000 gallons of water, and the dogs leaped and splashed as the crowd cheered.
The winner of the finals was Haley, owned by the Steve Schoenberger family from Weston. Steve said Haley likes to jump off the dock when they travel up north, but this is the first time she’s been in a competition. “She loves water. Her mom was a dock dog so my wife signed her up tonight and we thought we’d give it a try, and she did pretty well.”
Haley won by just an inch, jumping 14 feet 9 inches from the pier.
Pier Pups crew travels to various events with the portable dock and water tank. They will be in Oneida County August 16th, and back in Wausau next year.
