BROKAW, Wis (WSAU) The Village of Brokaw has gone to court and received a temporary restraining order against the new owners of the old Wausau Paper Mill. The village claims the new owners, Brokaw Development LLC, have been removing items from the property without a permit.
The village says the permitting ordinance was designed to keep the mill from becoming an abandoned eyesore. The law prohibits the razing, scrapping, or recycling of materials without getting a permit first. The village claims the new owners were violating the ordinance during an inspection earlier this year. Brokaw Development LLC denies it.
The development company brought the property from Wausau Paper last year. They say the land could be turned into a mixed-manufacturing hub, but they haven't been more specific than that.
The company has now applied for a permit. The request is pending before the village board.
