WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- Wausau’s mayor is being criticized for not following through on one of his recent initiatives.
Council member Keene Winters issued a statement Monday calling out Mayor Jim Tipple for not meeting a deadline for appointing a citizen panel to advise the council about what form of government the city should have in the future. Winters says Tipple was to have a list of potential task force members ready for the September 9th meeting, and no such list is included in the council packets. That deadline was Tipple's, which he announced in a special July press conference about looking at the city either keeping a mayoral government or changing to a city manager.
By city council rule, council packets are to be complete and distributed to members and the public six days before the meeting. Winters says, “From a process standpoint, I don’t think I can vote to approve the task force on September 9th” and that the council needs enough time to do their homework and talk to constituents before approving task force members.
Winters has often criticized the mayor for asking the council to approve last-minute things on the agenda.
