WESTON, Wis. (WSAU) -- Weston officials are leaning towards not extending a sand mining permit.
The Weston Planning Commission voted Monday against expanding a mine at 4202 Camp Phillips Road, which would have taken about 120,000 cubic yards of sand while building two small ponds on a 14 acre parcel.
Several area residents opposed the mining, saying they were looking forward to the end of the five-year agreement. Others opposed mining that close to the Eau Claire River.
Weston’s Plan Commission voted 5-1 against amending the existing non-metalic mining permit to grant a five-year extension. The Village Board will have the final say on this issue next Monday, September 15th.
