MARSHFIELD, Wis. (WSAU) -- Marshfield’s School Board voted to slash nearly half the funding from an energy efficiency upgrade for district buildings.
At their Wednesday night meeting, a $5.65-million-dollar performance contracting project planned for the Marshfield School District was scaled back to $3-million-dollars. School board member Dorothy Chaney says raising taxes now to help fund the performance contracting projects would have jeopardized taxpayer support for future budget override referendums.
Amber Kiggens-Leifeit also sits on the school board and thinks taxpayers would react at the polls if the projects weren’t scaled back The 3-million-dollars will be spent on areas identified in a comprehensive report by Schneider Electric where the district could save money over 20 years by upgrading their energy efficiency.
