STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) -- Stevens Point just might know Wednesday afternoon who the next Fire Chief will be.

There is a special meeting of the Police and Fire Commission set for 3:30 p.m., which includes closed session discussions about the final two candidates. Interim Chief Robert Finn and Watertown Assistant Chief and Emergency Management Services Director Kraig Biefeld are the last two being considered by the Commission.

Finn has been the Stevens Point Fire Department’s Assistant Chief for the past seven years, and spent 27 years in Westchester, Illinois before that. Biefeld was also a finalist a year ago when Marshfield was searching for a new chief.

Police and Fire Commission President David Schleihs is not sure if the commissioners will make a final decision Wednesday, but he placed the items on the agenda in a manner where they could move forward if they want to.

Stevens Point has been searching for a permanent fire chief since Tracey Kujawa left last spring to become Wausau’s chief.
