RHINELANDER, Wis. (WSAU) -- A travelling spay and neuter clinic from northern Wisconsin is continuing to offer low cost service across the area.
The Fix Is In opened in July of 2012, and clinic manager Ashley McLaughlin says they help pet owners who may not have a lot of money a chance to get their pets fixed. "We travel throughout the northwoods, set up a clinic day at a given location, and just spay and neuter a mass number of animals."
The clinic makes regular stops here in Wausau as well as across northern Wisconsin. "We generally do about 100 animals a week, and we travel 2 days a week, so we're in Wausau just about every Wednesday of the month." McLaughlin says two years of clinics and stops haave helped a lot of animals lead happy and healthier lives. "We are creeping up on 8000 animals that we've fixed since our launch."
The service is both about helping families get their pets fixed, but also to help control the pet population. That's already a major issue in Wausau as the city starts to look at its own Trap Neuter Release program, and McLaughlin says enough animals end up in area shelters as it is. "We just hate the thoughts of animals being euthanized. It just breaks our heart, that's what we want to control the animal overpopulation issue, to make sure that all animals do have a home."
You do need to make an appointment with the clinic before they travel to your area, but they have service across the region. To find out more and to sign up for the service, check their website at http://www.thefixisin.org or call 715-550-SPAY (7729).
