ASHLAND, Wis. (WSAU) -- It appears there won’t be a debate between the two 7th Congressional District candidates in Ashland at the end of the month.
Jory DeLoach is with Congressman Sean Duffy’s re-election campaign. He says, “Congressman Duffy offered to debate Kelly Westlund, but she declined the event.” DeLoach expressed his disappointment, saying the Westlund campaign was not the negotiating in good faith, and the two sides couldn’t agree on the terms of the proposed debate.
Both sides say the other is not negotiating in good faith. The Westlund campaign issued a similar statement October 9th saying the Duffy campaign kept cancelling and changing the dates.
Westlund had previously committed to dates in Ashland October 22nd, Wausau October 29th, and Superior October 30th. Duffy had previously committed to Wausau on October 29th and Ashland on October 30th. It appears the only date they can agree on is October 29th in Wausau. That debate is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at the UW Marathon County Center for Civic Engagement. It is supposed to last one hour.
