WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WSAU) -- The final decision was made Thursday to go ahead with a major medical facility expansion in Wisconsin Rapids.
Aspirus leaders made it official. They will expand the Aspirus Doctors Clinic on Peach Street just off the Highway 54 expressway. The 30-million dollar building expansion will include the addition of between 10 and 25 inpatient hospital beds, a helipad, more parking, plus some walking paths and green space. Construction will begin about one year from now, and Aspirus plans to open the new facilities in the fall of 2017.
The project is anticipated to add over 225 new well-paying, benefit eligible jobs to their existing Wisconsin Rapids staff of 134.
Dr. Thomas Voelker is the Clinic President. He said the initial plan was to expand at this site, although they did consider putting the new facility in the Biron Industrial Park. The medical group was able to stay at this site after some regulatory issues were resolved.
