WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WSAU) -- The murder trial for a Wisconsin Rapids man accused of killing his daughter’s ex boyfriend gets underway today.

55-year-old Joseph Reinwand is accused of killing 35-year-old Dale Meister in February of 2008. Meister was found by family members in his home at Thousand Oaks Trailer Park with bullet wounds to his head and chest.

It took five years and a 14-month-long John Doe investigation to gather evidence and testimony before murder charges could be filed.

The criminal complaint said Reinwand’s daughter and Meister had a child together, and that Reinwand made it difficult to have visitation with that child.

This is not Reinwand’s only legal problem. He is currently serving prison time for forgery, burglary, identity theft, possessing a sawed off shotgun, and possession of marijuana. He has also been charged with another murder. Investigators believe they can now prove Reinwand killed his wife Pamela 30 years ago, shortly after she gave birth to their daughter. That death was considered a suicide until recently.

The jury was selected for this trial Friday, and testimony is expected to last ten days.  The second murder trial for the death of Pamela will be next July.
