WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WSAU) -- The homicide trial for Joseph Reinwand is underway in Wisconsin Rapids, but it got off to a rocky start. That’s because the bus bringing the jury from Waushara County broke down just before getting into Wisconsin Rapids.

Once everyone made it to the courthouse, opening statements began. Prosecutors argued the defendant is a controlling personality, who tried to block victim Dale Meister from getting visitation rights to see his daughter, who is Reinwand’s granddaughter.

Defense attorney David Dickman asked the jury to hear the evidence and not jump to quick conclusions, and pointed out the prosecution is putting a lot of weight into testimony from “jailhouse snitches” that may have told stories for their own benefit.

Testimony has begun. The trial is expected to take about 10 days. This is one of two murder trials Reinwand will go through. He is also accused of killing his wife about 30 years ago shortly after giving birth to their daughter.
