MEDFORD, WI (LEARFIELD-WSAU) A man who shot and wounded a Taylor County sheriff’s deputy has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.
Twenty-eight-year-old Alexander Schneider told detectives he was under the influence of synthetic marijuana and was suicidal at the time of the incident. He shot Deputy Chad Kowalczyk in the stomach last year.
The deputy had gone to Schneider’s home in response to a woman’s complaint she had received 16 text messages from him that day. She had a restraining order against Schneider at the time.
The deputy spent about a week in the hospital after the shooting.
