HUDSON, Wis. (WSAU) -- A former Merrill area man with several court case convictions is now facing additional serious charges. 56-year-old Kelly Kloss of River Falls is being held in the Marathon County Jail, where he is charged with operating while intoxicated for the ninth time, and escape. He is unable to post the $150,000 cash bond. The escape charge and arrest warrant was issued after Kloss attended his mother’s funeral 10 months ago and failed to report back to jail.

Now, Kelly Kloss and his 60-year-old wife Cheryl are charged with conspiracy to kill a police officer and threatening to harm a judge in St. Croix County. The St. Croix County complaint claims they discussed how to get revenge on the officer and the judge over 30 times during jail phone calls.

Kelly had told his wife to contact a friend to rig explosives at the house, and to load several weapons in case police came back. He also urged his wife to assassinate the judge. When officers executed the warrant last month, they found several loaded weapons and Cheryl hiding in a passage hidden behind a dresser.

Cheryl Kloss is jailed in Hudson at the St. Croix County Jail.

Kelly Kloss has a pretrial conference on the OWI and escape charges in Marathon County November 25th. He also has an unresolved civil case in Lincoln County.
