WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- A special prosecutor will try the case of a former Rothschild police officer accused of sexually assaulting a woman. 22-year-old Corey Yolitz was relatively new to the department, and resigned October 4th, the day after being identified as the suspect.

The victim claims Yolitz, who was off duty, drove her home from a bar. Yolitz later admitted to investigators that he went back to check on her, and assaulted her while she was drunk. The victim thought it was her boyfriend, but then realized it wasn’t and identified the off duty cop as the assailant as he ran towards his car.

Judge Jill Falstad assigned Black River Falls attorney Melissa Inlow as the special prosecutor in the case. It is not uncommon for the courts to assign a special prosecutor when one of the parties has a background of working with local prosecutors and the courts such as former officer Yolitz.
