MOSINEE, Wis. (WSAU) -- With less than 24 hours to go, both Mary Burke and Scott Walker were making whirlwind tours of Wisconsin firing up crowds and reaching for every last vote. Burke was in Stevens Point at the Democratic Headquarters. Walker was at Crystal Finishing Systems new Mosinee facility for their ribbon cutting ceremony.

The Governor was touring with Congressmen Paul Ryan and Sean Duffy, Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch, First Lady Tonnette Walker, his two sons and the two Kleefisch daughters. Walker hit on familiar themes, including more jobs and less taxes.  “I hear people who say time, and time, and time, and time again, if you want to continue the economic recovery that got us the surplus in the first place, keep putting that money back in the hard-working taxpayer’s hands. As long as I’m your Governor, as long as Rebecca Kleefisch is your Lieutenant Governor, every time we have a surplus, we’re going to put that money back in your hands.”

He added, “From year to year, from last September to this September, we ranked 4th, not last like the ads say, 4th in the midwest for private sector job creation. Give us four more years, and we’re going to be at the top of that list.”

Walker also criticized the special interest groups and union leaders pouring big money into his opponent’s campaign. He said many of the special interests are afraid that a state that hasn’t elected a Republican for President in many years would support a Republican reformer in three straight elections for Governor.  “They’re afraid that that might catch on across America. This election’s not just about Governor, this election’s about taking America back and putting it in the hands of the hard working taxpayers.”

If you think the candidates are done campaigning because it’s election day, you’re wrong.  Mary Burke is going to be in Wausau at 10:45 a.m. at the Democratic Field Office, also known as the Labor Temple. Scott Walker will be in Wausau at 12:40 p.m. at Red Eye Brewing Company.

The two candidates paths actually crossed Monday. Both were at Austin Straubel Airport in Green Bay at the same time, and they did pose for a picture together.
