AUBURNDALE, Wis. (WSAU) -- Here’s proof that police have no such thing as a routine traffic stop.
Wood County Sheriff’s Deputy Andrew Simon was in the Auburndale area Tuesday, and stopped a vehicle for speeding on Highway 186. Driver 33-year-old Dartanyon Wallace might have been wise to drive the speed limit and not get the officer’s attention, because Simon is also a K-9 handler for the sheriff’s department. His four-legged friend Rex alerted Simon of the presence of drugs in the car.
Further investigation found that Wallace had thrown a substantial amount of heroin out the window in an attempt to avoid being caught with it, but Rex not only detected the drugs in the car, he found the discarded drugs. The street value of the confiscated heroin is about $8,000 dollars.
Wallace is presently in the Wood County Jail awaiting his next court appearance.
