Testin: Republicans unanimously endorse change to single-vendor DPI software plan

ROTHSCHILD, WI (WSAU) -  A Stevens Point business got some much needed support from delegates at the Republican State Convention Saturday.

School software developer Skyward has been in a battle with the Department of Public Instruction since February 1st, when the state awarded a single source student information system contract to Infinite Campus. Skyward appealed that decision based on discrepancies in scoring the proposals. DPI rejected that appeal Thursday.

The company will now appeal to the Department of Administration, which is under Governor Scott Walker. Walker’s Republican Party delegates voted Saturday at their convention to support a multi vendor system and eliminate the proposed monopoly. Portage County Republican Chairman Pat Testin gained the unanimous support of the delegation.  He was concerned he may not get the opportunity to get a floor vote, but it worked out.

Testin says this issue is huge to Portage County and surrounding areas, and losing those jobs to a government created monopoly is unacceptable.

Representative Don Pridemore was recently defeated in the State Superintendent race. Pridemore plans to draft a bill that he says is even better than AB60, the multi-vendor proposal from Stevens Point Democrat Katrina Shankland.

Representative Scott Krug of Rome has also authored an amendment to the budget to defund the DPI’s single vendor proposal.
