CRANDON, WI (WXPR) - Trial began in Forest county Thursday for a 47 year old Crandon man charged with the 2012 New Year's day death of a man in a traffic crash.

Norbert Polar is charged with Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Motor Vehicle and five other charges. Court documents say 41 year old Klynt Decorah was walking along Highway 55 in the town of Nashville when he was struck by a vehicle. He later died of injuries. A short time later, Forest County Sheriff John Dennee found Polar's car off the road, and he was arrested for intoxicated driving. During a motion hearing Thursday, Polar admitted to four prior DUI convictions. A number of witnesses were called. Jurors were dismissed at 4:30 p.m. and will return for the second day of trial Friday morning at 8:30 a.m.
