WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WNS) - A Wisconsin Rapids area man was sentenced today to a year in jail, for shooting his best friend to death while being drunk.
Wood County Circuit Judge Greg Potter also told 23-year-old Tyler Enkro to spend 10 years on probation, twice what attorneys on both sides recommended in a plea deal. Prosecutors had recommended the jail time, but Enkro will be allowed to serve it intermittently so he can run a dock business during the summers. He must also perform 100 hours of community service, and visit the victim’s grave on the anniversary of his death.
Enkro was convicted in March on a charge of homicide by intoxicated use of a firearm in the shooting death of 31-year-old Nick Hoffmann in December of 2011. Enkro’s blood alcohol level at the time was point-17, over twice the legal intoxication limit for drunk drivers.
