STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) - Stevens Point’s school board has filled the open seat. Jeff Presley was appointed by the other eight board members to serve the remaining time on John Zellmer’s term of office. Presley previously served one term in 2009 and is also on the Portage County Board of Supervisors.
Six people applied for the seat. Jeff Presley, Sam Levin, Kurt Lepak, Patricia Baker, Frances Fulton and Meg Erler. Presley, Lepak and Erler were selected as finalists, and Presley won the seat on the second ballot.
Unlike last month where the board was divided and could not select officers, Terry Rothman was chosen as President on the first ballot over Angel Faxon on the first ballot 6-3. Faxon was selected Vice President over Christina Scott 5-4 on the first ballot.
As Rothman took the gavel for the first time as President, he asked everyone to put their differences aside.
Much of the discussion centered on how much power the Board President should have in setting the agenda. Several board policies will be reviewed and revised before the next meeting, so the board can vote on the changes.
