STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) - A seventh grader collapsed and died at school Tuesday, and nobody knows why. 12-year-old Joey Miller was a seventh grader at St. Peter’s Middle School in Stevens Point.
Administrator Todd Kuckkahn says Miller’s death has been hard on everyone around him. “We certainly request and extend our heartfelt prayers and sympathy to the family, to the friends of Joey, students, faculty and staff at St. Peter’s Middle School on this loss. We trust that God is in his infinite wisdom will walk with us in our grief and bring comfort and peace, and we ask that people respect the privacy of those close to Joey as they deal with their loss.”
Grief counselors were brought in to St. Peter’s Middle School Wednesday to help students and staff deal with the tragedy. Kuckkahn says everyone is struggling with Miller’s death. “Students and staff have been doing as good a job as you can expect people to do, in pulling together and supporting each other.”
County Coroner Scott Rifleman says Miller’s exact cause of death remains a mystery, but he told WSAU the boy had no noticeable injuries, and his death was not trauma or drug related. Rifleman adds it may take weeks or months to know the exact cause of death.
Miller’s services have been arranged. Visitation is Friday evening from 4-8 and the funeral is Saturday morning at 10:30 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Stevens Point.
