CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI  (WSAU) -  A Junction City man faces charges of burglary, theft, and possessing a firearm as a felon after being caught stealing from the dead.

32-year-old Seth Furgason is accused of taking valuables from the homes of recently deceased people, such as baseball cards from the 1960’s through the 1980’s, chain saws, and a handgun.

Furgason was arrested in Wisconsin Rapids April 16th, and officers found several stolen items in his home. They also found flashlights with his DNA at a crime scene in Chippewa County.

Investigators traced Furgason to the Chippewa County thefts with the DNA and also by a number of phone calls to the victim’s residence that came from a cell phone with caller ID blocked. A search warrant revealed it was Furgason’s phone. Police say he used that tactic on at least 15 other potential victims.

Furgason is presently free on a 5-thousand dollar signature bond on these charges. He is to appear in Chippewa County May 30th at 1:00 p.m. before judge Roderick Cameron. The next day, he has an appearance scheduled in Wood County for the resisting and obstructing charge.
