KRONENWETTER, Wis. (WSAU) - The villages of Weston and Kronenwetter and the Town of Weston are joining together to fix their outdated zoning ordinances.
Many of the codes and laws on the books in the three municipalities are severely outdated or no longer in current use. The three communities have hired MDRoffers Consulting to overhaul their existing zoning ordinances. Kronenwetter community development director Randy Fifrick says some of their codes and laws date back to the 70's. "We've still got rules on the book for building phone booths, and I'm pretty sure no one's going to be making any more of those." Zoning rules tell the villages and community what's allowed to be built in each area of the village, from signage to roads to landscaping.
Fifrick says the joint project should help everyone involved. "Not only to help those who work in each municipality, but also area developers." Fifrick says some conformity in the coding for each community will help local builders and architects be sure their work is up to code no matter which side of the village line they're building on.
Work on the project has been continuing over the last six months between the municipalities. The next meeting of the joint board looking over the review will meet next month.
