WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) - The Marathon County sheriff's department unveiled their connection to the CrimeReports system on Tuesday.
The program is a powerful tool that allows officers and the public to see where police are being dispatched in the community. Captain Greg Bean says the program makes it so that people have better access to information on crimes in their area. "You're going to know if something's going to be occurring in your city block or county block."
Residents of the county will now have access to know where sexual offenders are in their area, near real time info on crimes that are being reported and investigated in their area, and will be able to send in anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers. Officers will get a better way to organize all this information and better determine where they should be focusing their efforts in the community.
Bean says the department wants to share this information. "We want the public to know what we're doing. It's not a secret, we work for the public and they have a right to know what's going on the community, and this is a quite easy way to show them."
