MARSHFIELD Wis. (WSAU) -- Marshfield’s Common Council will hear a presentation on that city’s recommended 2015 -2019 Capital Improvement Program at Tuesday’s meeting.

City administrator Steve Barg says the C.I.P. helps the city set priorities for the next five years, and items related to maintenance and safety top of the list.

According to Barg, “We established the top priorities as ‘health and safety’ number one. Obviously if we’ve got streets of sidewalks or other building issues, whatever, that are considered to be safety concerns we want to take care of those first and foremost. Secondly, and right behind it, is maintaining our current infrastructures and facilities.” The larger street reconstruction projects are planned for East 29th Street, and East 17th Street running through the Central Wisconsin Fairgrounds.

Alderman Ed Wagner sat on the C.I.P. Committee and likes the plan’s emphasis on street improvements, but objects that bike trails will take up $315,000 of the city’s borrowing power next year. At the recommendation of the city’s finance director Keith Strey, the plan provides for up to $2.5-million dollars in borrowing per year through 2019. The C.I.P. Administrative Committee, the Plan Commission, and the Board of Public Works, have all recommended the plan for adoption. Final action is expected at the Common Council’s April 8th meeting.
