MEDFORD, Wis. (WSAU) -- The woman accused of abandoning pets when she moved out of a Medford area home will spend the next year on probation.
29-year-old Callie Neuman accepted a plea bargain on Monday on animal neglect charges. Authorities say she moved in with her boyfriend back in March, but left two cats and a great dane dog behind unattended.
As part of the plea deal, Neuman may not own pets and will have to pay just over 300 dollars in fines and fees for the rescue and medical treatment of the animals.
At the time of her arrest, Neuman said she was taking the animals food and water, but investigators say a neighbor called in a barking dog complaint knowing nobody was living there. Police found the house covered in feces, urine, and trash. The cats were in good shape, but the great dane had to be treated for being underweight.
