BIRNAMWOOD, Wis. (WSAU) -- A 48 year old Stevens Point woman is in the hospital today following a Saturday hit-and-run near Birnamwood.
Officials say the crash happened on Highway 45 north of Birnamwood around 8 am on Saturday. The victim was headed northbound on 45 when she was struck by a 2011 Toyota FJ Cruise towing a boat behind it. The driver of the Toyota fled the crash.
The woman had to be airlifted to Aspirus Wausau Hospital for treatment.
State troopers shut the highway down for several hours afterwards for accident reconstruction. The accident remains under investigation. The woman's name has not been released.
