SHAWANO, Wis. (WSAU) -- The man who held a Wittenberg convenience store clerk hostage has entered a plea deal.
28-year-old Travis Keiler entered into a plea deal with Shawano county prosecutors Tuesday, and was found not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. Keiler had held the Shell Station manager hostage for several hours April 22nd. Everyone else in the gas station and attached McDonald’s were allowed to leave unharmed.
As part of the deal, a disorderly conduct charge and a concealed weapon charge were dismissed, but will be read in at his August 26th sentencing. Keiler may have been found not guilty, but he is likely to spend time in a state mental health facility for his actions. He is still in jail, unable to post a $50,000 cash bond.
