WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) --

A Dorchester man accused of beating puppies with a sledgehammer is now free on bond. 68-year-old Terrence Seubert made an appearance in Marathon County court Tuesday, where Judge Greg Grau set a $1,500 signature bond.

Seubert is accused of killing eight Blue Heeler pups that were three days old at a Town of Holton farm August 9th.

The complaint claims that Seubert distracted the mother of the puppies with food, and then killed the puppies in a bucket, soaked them in water, and then buried them. The person that reported the incident said Seubert knew homes had already found for some of the puppies.

Seubert cannot be anywhere near domesticated animals while free on bond. He will be back in court September 22nd before Judge Michael Moran for a preliminary hearing. If convicted on the eight counts of felony mistreatment of animals, Seubert could spend up to 28 years in prison.
