PLOVER, Wis. (WSAU) -- The Village of Plover will be replacing two retiring department heads by the end of the year. Fire Department Chief Tim Kluck is leaving after over 30 years of service, with the last 8 as the Fire Chief, and Chief Dwayne Wierzba is stepping down after more than 30 years of leading the Police Department.
Village Administrator Dan Mahoney says the village’s Police and Fire Commission will take care of the Fire Chief hiring process before completing the Police Chief selection. “We’re fortunate in a way that there’s a little bit of timing between the two chiefs that are retiring. Chief Kluck will be retiring in early December, and then Chief Wierzba will be retiring in early January, so that helps us out a little bit.”
Mahoney says the application deadline for the fire chief position closed Friday, and they had over 20 applicants for the opening. “What will happen next is I will be looking at those applications and narrowing them down, then basically, be meeting with the Village President and the Police and Fire Commission to select a slate of candidates that would then move forward with respect to the interview process.”
The police chief applications will be accepted starting next week. “We started our advertising, and the actual acceptance of applications will be from September 29th through October 17th, and after that point, we’ll do our applicant screening and do our interviews, and we hope to have a police chief selected by around the middle of December, say December 17th or so.”
Information about the fire and police chief openings, and how to apply for police chief are at the village’s website.
